If the old adage "he who pays the piper calls the tune" then young people should have an absolute voice in the Brexit debate, and arguably a veto upon the outcome of the referendum and negotiations between the UK & EU.
As a person of "age" I am aghast at the arrogance of my generation is exercising authority but declining any responsibility. Already the outcome of the Brexit vote has been an effective pay cut which impacts young people more than older people. On the news everyday we hear that in future a greater & greater proportion of the nation's wealth will be needed to support old people. These statements are laced with emotional blackmail.
Yet my generation have made a decision that the future wealth creators will have fewer opportunities (less then we had). My son's plans to explore the educational and employment opportunities across the EU now hang in the balance, and have probably been scotched by this government.
Worse still, almost every time young people politely try to express their concerns, my generation roll out WW2 and their supposed sacrifices. But to have served in WW2 in battle you have to be male and at least 91 years old. Just how many 91 year old men are there in UK today? Almost none. So in fact my generation are doing something worse than lying to the young, we are stealing the very real sacrifices out fathers made.

Nice article!

These street focus groups look like a really interesting and unique technique to conduct market research. I especially see how they can be helpful by making the experience an interesting one for those getting interviewed as well those conducting it.

One thing I'd just like to add in regards to the approach is that it might be helpful for some businesses to hire an outside firm to conduct such a type of Focus Group session for them, particularly if they're strapped for time. One company I know of that actually does provide such a service is called SQM (linked: https://goo.gl/DWbZx1). I think any business could benefit from hiring such a service and combining the techniques mentioned in the article.

There's a real challenge for those of us who work in and around this field - we often find ourselves accentuating the negative to 'prove' that our services are needed.

In my area of specialism - drug and alcohol prevention - there's been a decade or more of sustained good news, with the proportions of young people and young adults who say they smoke, drink or take other drugs falling quite substantially. Here's a briefing I put together on this a couple of years ago https://bit.ly/18PQ6W0.

That story is starting to be reflected in the way that the media report the annual surveys, but there's a real lag in that message being believed by adults and young people themselves.

Hi Jonny
Would you object if I use these clearly described ideas to help resident groups to think more about the ways in which they want others to get involved?
Many thanks
